1,447 metres above sea-level, Andermatt is a large mountain village in the Urseren Valley, in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Famously popular for skiing and winter fun, Andermatt may not be a destination couples immediately think of for a romantic weekend break in summertime. However, between the months of May and September, temperatures in Andermatt steadily rise into the mid - high 20’s, melting the winter snow and transforming the surrounding scenery to reveal stunning Alpine views of verdant valleys, distant snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls, blooming wild flowers and crystal-clear mountain lakes to create nothing short of an idyllic romantic haven.
Indeed, being pleasingly less crowded
(and less expensive) than during the peak winter season, summertime in
Andermatt is regarded by many as the best time of year to visit this beautiful part
of the world. And for those who struggle with the idea of a summer break ‘sans sun,
sea and sand,’ an afternoon swim in the clear, fresh waters of a mountain lake
will take less than a second to change your mind.

Inside The Chedi Andermatt | Romantic Recommendations from Manuel Bernardo, Hotel Senior Sales Manager
Manuel says….
If you are planning a romantic getaway in the Swiss Alps and
you’re staying with us at The Chedi Andermatt there are some romantic experiences
you simply cannot miss. Definitely, breakfast-on-balcony or in
bathtub in the privacy of your own suite. Get up and in your soft bathrobe,
enjoy an outstanding breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh
mountain berries and a glass of refreshing champagne. There is no better
way to wake up. After the extensive breakfast on the Terrace head to the
SPA to lounge in the 36 degrees warm, 12m outside pool and then relax completely in
one of the Courtyard lounges, under the sun.
Also the Old-timer ride: Enjoy the Morgan. Put a silk
scarf around your head, sunglasses on and ride like a 50’s movie star up the
old roads and passes to the stunning and ice cold glaciers. Enjoy the wind in
your hair and admire the breath-taking views from an altitude of 2,200 metres above sea level.
How do couples arrange these great experiences?
Our Concierge, Stefano, is the ‘Master’ of fine and hand-picked
experiences. Together with his colleagues and our private mountain
tour-guide, Peter, they can make any wish come true. They will speak with the guests
prior to each experience to ensure it is up to their expectations and it
is exactly that what the guests want. Of course, they will also check up
on dietary preferences and the safety of our guests, and take care of all
the organisation and transfers if needed. Also our Head Housekeeper, the ‘Good-Fairy’
of the hotel, is the one that will personally make sure the Room or Suite is
ready for romance. She is the one picking the roses in our flower store,
spreading them carefully and with an eye for detail around your suite and
fixing the last candle as well as preparing the champagne shortly before
each guest’s arrival. It is a special combination of the magic of our staff and
the personal wishes of our guests that make each experience perfect.
And when it comes eating at The Chedi Andermatt, do you have any favourite dishes you can recommend?
My favourites are The Japanese Menu, the guests have to absolutely try our sake tasting. It’s fantastic and our Sake Master will teach them with a lot of charisma and fun and they will learn a bit about the rich culture of this traditional drink. Also they will love the summer cocktails of our Chef de Bar Wolfgang served outside, under the sun, in the courtyard.
