VIDEO REVIEW - The Egerton House Hotel: A Romantic Escape with a Dash of Cheeky British Charm

Introduction

Over 15 years ago, Chloe and Jason founded The Romantic Tourist to create a one-stop shop for couples to discover the world’s most romantic experiences, hotels, and venues. Their vision was to help couples find destinations that perfectly match their personal style and expectations of romance—no matter the occasion. From anniversaries to proposals, their mission is to connect couples with unforgettable moments for life’s most special celebrations.

Arrival
Picture this: we arrive on a cold Sunday afternoon in February, London’s winter chill nipping at our Chelsea Boot heels—which, let’s be honest, we’re now wearing for the second time around because we’ve reached that age. Having travelled from Norfolk, we made a quick stop off in South London to visit family, where we left the car behind and opted for the train straight to Victoria. From there, a quick jaunt in a black taxi brought us to Egerton Gardens. As we pull up outside, we’re unmistakably signposted to our destination by its proudly fluttering Union Jack.

Ascending the steps to the hotel’s reception, we’re quickly intercepted by a warm, quintessentially British welcome. And from that very first moment, The Egerton House Hotel envelops us in its promise of polished, personalised luxury—effortlessly blending timeless elegance, heartfelt charm, flawless attention to detail, and just the faintest whiff of encouraged decadence (if you happen to be looking for it) to brighten the frostiest of days.

The Room
A recent refurbishment meant our boutique room at the front of the property was not only luxurious but also thoughtfully designed with couples in mind. When booking a romantic escape, the most expensive or largest room isn’t always the best choice. Instead, you’re looking for a space that offers comfort, indulgence, and ideally a fantastic view—and the Egerton team were spot on with their selection for us: the Deluxe King Room.

Every detail of the room was flawlessly presented to meet our every need without ever feeling overstated. The full-height bay windows bathed the space in afternoon sunlight, offering enchanting views of Egerton Gardens. The room struck the perfect balance of style and opulence, featuring a sumptuous Savoir bed, plush bathrobes and slippers, and luxury toiletries. At 25 m², the room felt intimate yet grand, with every corner thoughtfully curated to enhance the experience.

Having been fortunate enough to stay in many wonderful hotels, we would easily define The Egerton as true luxury. It’s hard to put into words, but the experience is simple yet profound: “I want… oh, there it is.” Everything you could possibly wish for is effortlessly at hand, presented with a quiet subtlety and refined elegance. And it’s those thoughtful, unexpected touches—like (in our opinion) the inspired offering of complimentary cheese on toast—that makes hotels like The Egerton stand out. The result is an indulgent experience that feels perfectly tailored to your needs, yet completely unpretentious.

The Goodies Counter
Once we had settled into our room, we were invited to the lounge for a welcome drink, which meant passing the bottom of the staircase. At the bottom of the staircase leading to the rooms, The Egerton features a charming counter of goodies, bursting with rainbow-coloured bonbons and other sweet treats. It’s impossible to pass by without grabbing a handful, and trust us, you’ll want to make multiple trips. The counter is a nostalgic delight, with jars of classic sweets and colourful treats that transport you back to childhood. Whether you’re sneaking a handful on your way to bed or indulging in a little sugar rush before heading out for the day, this thoughtful touch is just another example of how The Egerton goes above and beyond to make every moment of your stay feel magical.

The Lounge
The lounge at The Egerton is a cosy SW3 hideaway where sophistication meets comfort. Seated in front of the fire, we were introduced to Alex, the charismatic Food & Beverage Manager, who made us feel instantly at home. Offering complimentary champagne (obviously, we were going to like him), Alex charmed us with his hospitality and shared his recommendations for the best bar snacks. Observing our enthusiasm for a few salted nuts and nibbles, Alex soon proposed an accompaniment of cheese on toast with our champagne. Now, while this might not appeal to everyone, for foodies like us, it’s probably the most heavenly temptation imaginable.

Devastatingly, we had to decline his offer as we had a late Sunday lunch booked in just under an hour.

The Martini Experience
After a hearty Sunday lunch (leaving no room for dessert) and a scenic walk back from Fulham Road, we were subtly ushered to the lounge as the team prepared an evening surprise in our room.

This presented us with the perfect opportunity to try The Egerton hotel’s famous martini—a theatrical experience not to be missed. Crafted at your table with flair and precision, the martini isn’t just a drink; it’s a performance. The bartender’s expert hands moved with the grace of a seasoned magician, and the result was a perfectly chilled, crystal-clear martini that packed a punch. (Word of advice: one is plenty unless you fancy a very wobbly walk back upstairs!) This signature Egerton experience is the perfect way to wind down after a day of exploring, offering a touch of glamour and indulgence that stays with you long after the final sip.

The Romantic Turn-Down
When we returned to our room, we were greeted with a scene straight out of a romantic film. Rose petals adorned every corner, chocolate-covered strawberries sat waiting alongside champagne on ice, and soft music played in the background. The bed and bathroom were beautifully decorated with heart-shaped designs, and the lights were turned down low, creating a warm, intimate glow. It was the perfect love nest, and for the next couple of hours, we felt utterly pampered and blissfully secluded.

This thoughtful turn-down service was more than just a gesture—it was an experience in itself, designed to make us feel like the only two people in the world. Every detail, from the delicate placement of the petals to the perfectly chilled champagne, spoke volumes about The Egerton’s commitment to creating unforgettable moments for their guests. It was romance, luxury, and intimacy all wrapped up in one magical evening.

Late-Night Indulgence
As the evening wore on, and the champagne ignited our hunger hormones, we couldn’t escape the earlier temptation of cheese on toast, so we made our way back to the lounge for a late-night snack. We explained to Alex (who was still there working) that we simply couldn’t sleep before trying the cheese on toast he had offered earlier. With his usual charm, Alex readily arranged it for us, to perfectly round off our day of indulgence.

A Luxurious Night’s Sleep & Breakfast Fit for Royalty
It was the perfect end to a perfect day, and after slipping into the cloud-like comfort of our sumptuous Savoir bed, we enjoyed a truly luxurious night’s sleep. The bed was so comfortable, we awoke feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated. It was as if the bed had gently cradled us through the night, ensuring the deepest, most restorative sleep imaginable.

Before leaving The Egerton, we were treated to a breakfast fit for royalty. Opting for breakfast served our room, overlooking Egerton Gardens, we were presented with a beautifully prepared Full English breakfast and a vegan breakfast, both of which were as delicious as they were satisfying. As a guest preferring a vegan menu, you will not be disappointed or restricted—the options were varied, thoughtfully prepared, and bursting with flavour. Every detail, from the perfectly cooked eggs to the fresh, vibrant ingredients, showcased the same impeccable attention to quality and care we’d experienced throughout our stay. It was the ideal way to cap off our time at The Egerton, leaving us feeling thoroughly ready to take on the day ahead.

Conclusion
The Egerton House Hotel is more than a place to stay; it’s an experience. From the cheeky touches (hello, sweet shop!) to the impeccable service and thoughtful surprises, every moment felt special. Whether it’s a romantic getaway, a celebration, or just a treat-yourself weekend, this hotel wraps you in a warm, luxurious embrace and leaves you smiling long after you’ve checked out.

We’ll be back, Egerton—save us a martini and some cheese on toast!
